After more than ten years service to the County's moths Jake has asked me to take over as East Glamorgan Moth Recorder. So a big thanks to him for his sterling efforts over the years to get the database to it's current standard. If you used to submit records directly to Jake, then please now forward them to me at the SEWBReC office or to my work email address.

Belated posting after Friday night's trapping in my garden - 11 species on an incredibly mild night (min 15 C!) including Heart and Dart and Eupoecilia angustana, both well out of season and presumably second brood examples. Also of note were two Caloptilia azaleella and three Blair's Shoulder-knot, the latter new for 2007.

Another fair selection of autumn species, with Green Brindled Crescent, Blair's Shoulder Knot, Black Rustic, and Pink Barred Sallow. The most notable find was a Large Wainscot. The species feeds on Phragmites in ditches and marshes, so quite how it found its way to my suburban garden is open to question. Waring and Townsend note that the species it can come to light ' sometimes far from breeding sites'. The nearest reedbed of any size would be Crymlyn or te Burry Inlet, both about 7 miles away.
