Had Dingy Shell in the garden trap on Sunday night along with a couple of Silver Y's. Highlight this morning though was Argyresthia trifasciata, new to the county list.

Small Dusty Wave (1) at tungsten light at the Captain's Wife pub in Swanbridge (Sully). Only the 3rd ever record outside Cardiff UA. This species seems to be present in the eastern Vale but of low density.

Rob and Linda Nottage found Brown-tail caterpillars at Aberthaw on 14th May. This appears to be the first larval records for Glamorgan of what can be a pretty destructive moth. This is also the first year that webs have been found on the dunes at Berrow in North Somerset, just the other side of the Severn.

News from Kenfig today of a teneral hairy dragonfly at the south end of Kenfig Pool (Mike Clark) and an adult male azure damselfly at the Castle Meadow moat (Tony Messinger). The moth trap is out tonight and Rob will be checking it just after 9am tomorrow if anyone wants to have a look. A big catch beckons!

There has been an influx of migrants over the past couple of nights. Last nights catch included Dark Sword-grass (3), Silver Y (1), and Diamond-back (24). Also new for the year Mompha rashkiella, Pale Mottled Willow and Flame Shoulder. Please also note that I'm away (at Portland) until next Saturday, so any photos sent to me in the next week will not appear until the following Monday (15th).
