Kenfig Reserve Centre MV trap produced nearly 80 species this morning including 3 Reddish Light Arches, a Dark Swordgrass, a Bordered Straw, 2 Shaded Pugs, 2 Sharp-angled Paecocks, a Double Line and Red-necked Footman.

Mothing yesterday produced some firsts for our Bridgend garden: Pammene regiana, Red-necked Footman and Pale-shouldered Brocade. Other highlights were Scarce Silver-lines and Dusky Brocade.

newport wetlands reserve, 27th june late a.m. 3 marbled white butterflies. few cinnabars and many six-spot burnets. out of county, at symonds yat east, approx dozen of scarlet tiger moths, 2.30 - 3.30 pm showing extremely well, in some plantation above wall by some car park spaces just next to the saracens head inn/pub. personally, we've never seen this species before and checked our books when we came back. absolutely stunning moths.

Kenfig Pool: a male Red-veined darter from the Arthur Morgan hide was the highlight, but also Fen Orchids in flower and Dark-green Fritllaries about.

Emma and Mike Cram's Bordered Straw turned out to be an Eastern Bordered Straw, new for the county and possibly new for Wales. Other recent migrants included a Small Marbled at Gorseinon (14th: BS and Sandra Stewart) and Palpita vitrealis at Cwm Ivy (18th: Veronica Shenston).

Five Red-tipped Clearwings to pheromone lures (tip and ves) in the sallow bushes N and W Kenfig Pool. Other lepidoptera present included Silver Y, Dark Green Fritillary, Painted Lady and Narrow-bordered Five-spot Burnet.

A Bordered Straw was a pleasant surprise and a first record for our garden this morning. Also trapped included Silver Y, Poplar Hawkmoth, Elephant Hawkmoth, Common Wave, Light Emerald, True Lover's Knot, Grey Pug, Green Pug, Brown Silver-line and Straw Dot.

Much improved mothing in Bridgend now. Highlights of last few nights are several Yellow-barred Brindle, Red Twin-spot Carpet, 2 Elephant and 2 Poplar Hawkmoths, Pale Mottled Willow, Alder Moth, Freyer's Pug, Miller and the delightful little Pyrausta aurata.

Sorry for late postings - just found this site. Dingy Skipper between Abercynon and Quakers Yard on evening of 2 June, with Burnet Companion. Clay Triple Line on my front door (in Quakers Yard) on 8 June. 10 June - lots of Painted Ladies and Silver Y's on Mynydd Cilfach-yr-Encil. Large Fritilary seen briefly in Cwm Bargoed (poss' Dark Green spp?)+ White Ermine. - All Merthyr CBC

Possibly three Red-eyed Damselflies were present at the Cardiff Bay Wetlands Reserve today on the lily pads on both the pond and 'canal'. This is the first documented record for Cardiff although there was a claim in 2005 from the Glamorgan Canal (no photograph taken).
